55 Cancri e exoplanet, illustration. 55 Cancri is a binary star approximately 41 light years away from our Sun in the constellation Cancer. The system consists of a G-type star 55 Cancri A (named Copernicus) and a smaller red dwarf Cancri 55 B. As of 2015 the system has 5 extrasolar planets which are orbiting 55 Cancri A. 55 Cancri e is so close to its star that a year only lasts 18 hours and its surface temperature is thought to reach 2000 degrees Celsius. | |
