Johann II Bernoulli (1710-1790), Swiss mathematician. Johann II, also known as Jean, was one of a number of prominent mathematicians from the Bernoulli family. He was the youngest son of Johann Bernoulli, who he succeeded as professor of mathematics as Basel University upon the elder's death. Johann II is known for his work on the capstan equation, the propagation of light and the magnet. | |
