It is hygroscopic and deliquescent, eventually dissolving in water drawn from the air. It is widely used in ÂtextileÂprocessing, chemical synthesis and metallurgical fluxes as well as a smoke grenade mixture known as HC and, because it fluoresces, as a solution for detecting fingerprints. A concentrated solution can dissolveÂstarch, Âsilk, andÂcellulose and can convert paper into a vulcanized fibre. | |
