Blood smear preparation technique, illustration. This is the wedge, or push, technique for preparing a blood smear. A drop of blood is placed on a glass slide (top left). Another slide is place at a 30 to 45 degree angle into the blood drop so that the blood spreads along its edge (top right). The angled slide is then pushed forwards (bottom left) to spread a monolayer of the blood across the slide (bottom right). | |
