Solvent absorption experiment, THRIVE research. Dynamic Vapor Sorption (DVS) is a gravimetric technique that measures how quickly and how much of a solvent is absorbed by a sample: such as a dry powder absorbing water. DVS is used to characterize potential adsorbents and evaluate them for use in adsorption heat pumps. Researchers from IBM Research and other institutes operate a project called THRIVE (Thermally Driven Heat Pumps for Substitution of Electricity and Fossil Fuels). The research focuses on adsorption heat pump (AdHP) technology, which relies on the use of adsorbent materials like silica gel. Photographed on 13 February 2015. | |
