Andradite is a mineral that belongs to the garnet group of minerals. It is a calcium-iron silicate, (Ca3Fe2Si3O12) in the cubic crystal system. In nature it often occurs as well developed dodecahedral or trapezohedral crystals coloured yellow- to brownish-green. It is formed in metamorphic rocks as well as in alkaline igneous suites. Provenance of this specimen is Langban in Varmland, Sweden. Actual width of sample is 100 mm. | |
