Underside of a leaf of Victoria amazonica, a giant water plant, the largest of all the water lilies in the family of Nymphaeaceae. Leaves may reach a diameter up to (exceptionally) 3 meters, but normally from 1 to 2 meters. The elaborate structure of solid veins on the underside of the leaf provide the necessary support for the stability of the enormous flat surface of the leaf. | |
