Mobile Aerospace Reconnaissance System (MARS) testing on a NASA boat sailing into the Atlantic Ocean from Port Canaveral in Florida, USA. MARS, operated by NASA's Langley Research Center, has spatial, hyperspectral, thermal, and directed energy capabilities that are used to monitor rockets and spacecraft during launches. During this test, the MARS X-band radar and kineto tracking mount (KTM) were tested to ensure that they were synchronized to receive a rocket launch feed. The radar was used to identify an object to see if the KTM could lock on to and track it. Photographed on 9 April 2012. | |
