Robotic High Irradiation to Materials experiment at CERN. CERNbot robot opening the HRMT45 module used in a HiRadMat (High Irradiation to Materials) experiment. HRMT45 was installed in the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) at CERN, the European particle physics laboratory, Switzerland. The graphite target was irradiated by the particle beam, and is here being handled in a separate are by a robot for analysis. This will help inform future use of the TDIS (Target Dump Injection Segmented) system during operation of the HiLumi (High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider, HL-LHC) beams. The HL-LHC is the planned successor to the LHC. Photographed on 9 November 2018.
