Milford Sound near dawn, with an early-morning layer of even altocumulus cloud. Altocumulus clouds occur at middle altitudes (2400-6000 metres), and are classified into several types. Milford Sound is one of several fjords in the south-west of New Zealand's South island. Towering vegetation-covered peaks rise from the water, in a landscape created by glaciation. Milford Sound is one of New Zealand's major tourist attractions. Photographed on a spring morning in November. | |
