Massive erratics left by ice-age Rhone Glacier near Solothurn, Switzerland. The two large erratics contain granite from the Mont Blanc area. Both rest on a pedestal of limestone about 40 cm high. The pedestal formed because the erratics protect the underlying limestone bedrock from precipitation and, therefore, erosion. | |
