Betelgeuse,composite optical image. This red supergiant is one of the largest stars currently known,with a radius around 1400 times larger than the Sun's. This image is a colour composite made from exposures from the Digitized Sky Survey 2 (DSS2). The field of view is approximately 2.0 x 1.5 degrees. Betelguese is located around 600 light years from Earth,in the constellation of Orion. Image published in 2010. | |
