Osteoporosis of the spine with vertebroplasty. Coloured frontal X-ray of the spine of a 65-year-old woman with osteoporosis,who has had vertebroplasty treatment (black,lower centre) to one of her thoracic vertebrae (T7). The vertebra has been filled with acrylic cement to stablise it. This treatment is known as vertebroplasty. Osteoporosis (brittle bone disease) is most common in women after the menopause because they no longer produce the hormone oestrogen that helps keep bones healthy.
