Full Moon,17th-century illustration. This engraving was produced in the 1630s based on observations made in early 1636 by French artist Claude Mellan (1598-1688). The telescope he used to observe the Moon was a relatively new invention,having been developed in around 1608. The engravings were commissioned by Nicolas-Claude Fabri de Peiresc and Pierre Gassendi. | |
