Land snail (Liguus virgineus) shell. This land snail is the only species of Liguus found on the island of Hispaniola, and is commonly called the Virgin Liguus. Over collecting to supply the shell art trade could eventually be the demise of this mollusc. Described by Linnaeus in 1767. This specimen collected in Haiti in 1985. | |
