Saltaire, Yorkshire, 19th century. Saltaire was a model textile factory and town near Bradford, Yorkshire, founded by Titus Salt (1803-1876) in 1851. Shops, a library and other facilities were provided for the workers, but no public houses as Salt was a teetotaller. The town was built on the Leeds and Liverpool canal for ease of transport of the factory's raw materials and finished goods. | |
