A section of the City wall at Tower Hill, London. Remains of the ancient walls built by the Romans and repaired between the 12th and 17th centuries. The lower section is Roman, and the wall would probably have been at least 6 metres high when first built between 190 and 210 AD, and nearly 3 metres thick. The wall extended over 3 kilometres round the city, but was largely demolished in the 18th century. | |
