Greater roadrunner (Geococcyx californianus) on the ground. This long-legged bird stands is found from the Southwestern USA to Mexico. It measures around 25-30 cm tall and is the largest cuckoo (family Cuculidae) in the Americas. Roadrunners get their name from their ability to run down their prey,which includes insects,spiders,tarantulas,scorpions,mice,small birds and especially lizards and small snakes.
