This region of nebulae (clouds of dust and gas) surrounds a group of bright stars (left) that are around 500 light years from Earth in the constellation of Ophiuchus. A lane of dark dust ('Dark River') extends from the nebulae to lower right. The red supergiant star Antares (orange) is at upper left,just above the nebula complex.
