Electrical conductivity, solid salt. A substance conducts electric current when it contains charged particles that can move. A circuit consisting of a battery, two electrodes (copper and graphite) in a jar, and a light bulb is used to test electrical conductivity of solid table salt (sodium chloride, NaCl). The bulb does not light up because solid table salt has no mobile electrons or ions. | |
