| Milky Way and laser guide star. This laser guide star (green) is from the William Herschel Telescope, pointing to the Summer Triangle. At lower left are other telescopes of the Roque de Los Muchachos observatory: the Swedish Solar Telescope (SST) and the Jacobus Kapteyn Telescope (JKT). These telescopes are located at an altitude of 2400 metres on La Palma, the Canary Islands, enabling views obscured by clouds for those at lower altitudes. The laser beam is a guide star used in the technique of adaptive optics. Photographed in 2017. | |
