Dolomite reacts with acid. Dolomite is an sedimentary rock composed of calcium magnesium carbonate (CaMg(CO3)2). Here a dolomite specimen is dropped into a beaker with 0.3 M hydrochloric acid (HCl). Carbon dioxide (CO2) bubbles are produced: CaMg(CO3)2 + HCl -> MgCl2 + CaCl2 + H2O + CO2. | |
