Scanning electron micrograph of chlorite, a phyllosilicate mineral with an elegant microscopic structure reminiscent of the petals of a flower. Chlorites are most commonly found as inclusions in or coatings on other minerals such as quartz, however they can also be found inside igneous or metamorphic rock formations. To the naked eye, chlorite is a relatively dull, dark-green rock with a pearly shine, but under a microscope, an intricate and beautiful structure is revealed.
