In the adult healthy pancreas islets appear of various size between 100 to 300 um, about 80% of which produce insulin (red in photo). Although they do not have fibrous capsules, they are sharply delineated against the exocrine parenchyma. There are also small collections of islet cells that are distributed randomly within the exocrine tissue. Anti-Insulin immunohistochemistry, x20. | |
