Graves disease is an immune disorder that results from over-production of thyroid hormones (hyperthyroidism). Thyroid hormones affect many body systems, thus Graves disease can be wide ranging and can influence overall health. This illustration shows two common symptom's of the disease, exophthalmos or bulging eyes and an enlarged thyroid (goitre). Graves disease is most common among women under 40 years of age. | |
