Rho Ophiuchi nebulae and molecular clouds, optical image. This region of nebulae (clouds of dust and gas) surrounds a group of bright stars (right) that are around 500 light years from Earth in the constellation of Ophiuchus. A lane of dark dust ('Dark River') extends from the nebulae to bottom left. The red supergiant star Antares (orange) is at centre right, just below the nebula complex. Photographed in 2017 from the Cumeada Observatory in the Dark Sky Alqueva Reserve, Portugal. | |
