ExoMars rover, illustration. This rover is scheduled for launch in July 2020 and landing on Mars in March 2021. The rover has a drill (dark grey box) to extract rock samples to continue the search for evidence of life on Mars. Solar panels provide power, and the camera (on mast) and other sensors provide other data and images. A surface platform (not shown) will be used to land and deploy the rover, and carry out other science objectives. Results will be relayed back to Earth by the Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) that reached Mars orbit in 2016. The ExoMars missions are jointly carried out by the European Space Agency (ESA) and Russia's space agency (Roscosmos). | |
