Melanocytic nevus (mole) on lip, light micrograph. Melanocytic nevi are benign neoplasms derived from melanocytes. The nevus cells show a progressive growth and migration from the dermoepidermal junction into the underlying dermis forming nests or strands in the dermis. The deeper nevus cells are smaller, produce little or no pigment, and grow in cords or single cells. The micrograph shows a nevus of about 0.5 cm in diameter located in a lip. | |
