Thimbleberry, Rubus parviflorus, is found from Alaska south as far as California, east to the Great Lakes region and south to Chihuahua, and San Luis Potosi. The edible but soft berries (really drupes) are attractive to many species of birds and mammals and make a tasty jam. Flowers are white and 5-petalled. The large leaves superficially resemble those of a maple but are alternate on the stem while maples are opposite. Photo Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming taken in August. | |
