Purple gerardia; Agalinis purpurea. This late summer blooming annual is now placed in the Broomrape family (Orobanchaceae) but was formerly considered a member of the Figworts (Scrophulariaceae) and in genus Gerardia. It is semiparasitic on grasses and an important larval food plant of buckeye butterfly. It is widely distributed throughout much of the eastern and central US. Photo Parker Co., TX. | |
