Sylvite. Sample of the mineral sylvite, a form of potassium chloride closely related to the more common rock salt called halite (sodium chloride). Both these natural salts form by evaporation from water containing the dissolved mineral. Sylvite is named after the Dutch scientist Franciscus Sylvius (1614-1672). | |
