Coronal (frontal) brain fMRI obtained while the subject's right hand/fingers were stroked by the technologist and the subject was finger tapping with both hands at the same time. Areas of BOLD (blood oxygen level dependent) activation have been overlaid on a structural 3D volume T1 weighted sequence. Note the BOLD activation in the superior cerebellar regions which contributes to modifying motor actions. Motor activation is blue. Sensory activation is orange. precs = precentral sulcus, precg = pre-central gyrus (primary motor strip), pocg = post-central gyrus (primary sensory strip), ces = central sulcus, sma = supplementary motor region, hmk = hand motor knob, frgs = superior frontal sulcus, frgs = superior frontal gyrus.
