This axial (cross section) image from an intracranial CT angiogram (CTA) shows a saccular aneurysm of the middle cerebral artery. Aneurysms are abnormal dilatations (enlargement) of the artery with weakening of the blood vessel wall. The risk of an aneurysm is rupture/tearing of the vessel wall which would lead to a subarachnoid haemorrhage (bleeding in the head) which can be fatal or result in significant neurologic deficit (stroke). | |
