Dichloromethane and water. Dichloromethane (CH2Cl2) is a non-polar organic solvent and is not miscible with water. Water floats on top of dichloromethane without mixing, as it has a lower density than dichloromethane. Here some copper sulphate (CuSO4) has been added to water for better visual contrast. Since copper sulphate is an ionic compound, it dissolves in polar water but not in non-polar dichloromethane. | |
