Oxidation of copper metal by silver ion. A clean piece of copper screen is placed in a solution of silver nitrate (AgNO3). With time the copper reduces Ag+ to silver metal crystals and copper is oxidized to Cu2+. The blue colour of the solution is due to the presence of aqueous copper (II) ion. | |
