Metal reactivity. Coils of zinc metal (Zn, left) and copper metal (Cu, right) are placed in test tubes with 1M solutions of sulfuric acid (H2SO4) at room temperature. Zinc is more reactive than copper. Zinc reacts with the acid producing hydrogen gas (H2) bubbles: Zn + H2SO4 -> ZnSO4 + H2. Copper does not react with 1M sulfuric acid. | |
