This larval California Giant Salamander, Dicamptodon ensatus, was photographed in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Santa Cruz Co., California, January 2015. Adults attain a total length of roughly one foot. Larvae may spend several years in the aquatic larval stage before becoming a terrestrial adult. | |
