This heteropod is a mollusk and is distantly related to clams and squid. In fact, Carinaria lamarcki is a free swimming marine snail with a small shell. The shell contains and protects most of its digestive tract, the gonads, the heart, and the gills. It is predatory and consumed a number of organisms that it was trawled with while in the lab. This individual was collected between 200 meters depth and the surface in the Gulf of Mexico, 2015. | |
