This heteropod is a mollusk (Pterotrachea sp.) and is distantly related to octopods and squid. They are free swimming marine snails with a small shell. The shell contains and protects most of its digestive tract, the gonads, the heart, and the gills. They are predatory and readily consume small fish if given the opportunity in the lab. This individual was collected between 200 meters depth and the surface in the Gulf of Mexico, 2015. | |
