Liquid storage tanks in building 371. All plutonium operations at the plant are carried out in highly specialized facilities, protecting the employees and the surrounding population and environment. The building is designed to withstand tornado, earthquake, snow storm, and flood damage. The facility is one large structure divided into three areas: plutonium recovery, waste treatment, and support. Personnel protection is provided by special protection devices: plutonium is handled remotely from instrumented control rooms, in gloveboxes, and in concrete vault canyons. This facility is currently being revaluated to develop a revised and upgraded process. Building 371 is located in the northwestern portion of the Rocky Flats Plant.
