IC 410 and the Tadpoles

| IC 410 is an emission nebula in Auriga that is a stellar nursery. NGC 1893 is a young star cluster that is forming out of the nebula. The nebula is located 12, 000 light-years away and the cluster stars formed just 4 million years ago. The Tadpoles at upper left in IC 410 are made of cooler and denser gas and dust that is being eroded and sculpted by the stellar winds from the young cluster stars. The Tadpoles are 10 light-years long. This monochrome image was shot with a narrowband hydrogen-alpha filter. | |
