Merryweather & Sons of Clapham, later Greenwich, London, were builders of steam fire engines and steam tram engines. In 1898 they designed a mobile fire extinguishing apparatus capable of holding more than 20 gallons of water. A pump driven by an electric motor connected to the electricity mains produced a powerful jet of water which would put out and fire breaking out in the home quickly and efficiently. | |
