Traditional rendering of The Star of Bethlehem. The actual nature of the star and if it corresponds to a real astronomical event has long been debated. Each possible explanation has logistical problems. A nearby supernova explosion would have produced a scene like the one shown here but such an event is not mentioned in texts of the period. Also such a star would have moved like other stars do making it worthless for navigation. | |
