This axial (cross sectional) T2 weighted MR image of a 10 year old demonstrates a large mass filling the nasopharynx, representing a rhabdomyosarcoma which is one of the most common head and neck malignancies in the paediatric population. There is fluid in mastoid air cells (on the viewer's right) secondary to obstruction of the Eustachian tube orifice in the nasopharynx. | |
