Silurian tribolite fossils. Trilobites were arthropods that fed as they crawled on the seabed. They lived between 500 and 300 million years ago and are now extinct. These are Acaste downingiae trilobites from the Silurian Period (443 to 419 million years ago), collected from Wenlock Limestone from the waste tips of the Malvern Tunnel in the Malvern Hills, UK. The head shield, or cephalon, measures 2 centimetres across. | |
