Sociable weavers (Philetairus socius) at their nest. The sociable weaver builds large communal nests. Up to 400 birds can inhabit a single nest, which provides shelter from the extreme temperatures of their savannah habitat. The nest is thatched (not woven) from grass, straw and twigs. Sociable weaver birds are found in the semi-arid savannah regions of southern Africa Photographed in the Kalahari regions of South Africa and Botswana.
