47 Tucanae (catalogued as NGC 104) is a globular cluster in the southern sky constellation of Tucana (The Toucan). After Omega Centauri it is the brightest globular cluster in the night sky, hosting tens of thousands of stars. Its distance from the Earth is about 13000 light-years and its diameter is 60 light-years. This image was created from photographic material taken with the 1.22-metre UK Schmidt Telescope at Anglo-Australian Observatory, forming part of the Digitized Sky Survey 2. | |
