22-degree solar halo in cirrostratus clouds. This atmospheric optical phenomenon is seen around the Sun, and is caused by prismatic refraction of sunlight through randomly-oriented hexagonal ice crystals in the atmosphere. The 22-degree halo is so-called as its diameter extends across 22 arc-degrees of the sky. Photographed looking south-west from Stratfield Mortimer, Berkshire, UK, in the middle of the afternoon of 5 April 2018. | |
