Triosephosphate isomerase (TIM or TPI) is an enzyme of glycolysis, the metabolic pathway that produces energy from glucose. The protein is folded into a TIM barrel, consisting of eight helices (blue) surrounding a 'barrel' of eight parallel sheet strands (green). A partial transparency has been added to two helices to facilitate visualization of the barrel. The TIM structure is very common motif, it was named in recognition of this enzyme. | |
