Neutron beam sample analysis, abstract image. Neutrons are fundamental particles found in atomic nuclei. Typically emitted by a suitable radioactive source or nuclear reactor, neutrons have applications in various areas of physics. The samples here are a solution of diphthalocyanine complexes of rare metals and DNA (blue) and a triple compound solution of porphyrins with fullerenes and polyvinylpyrrolidone (orange). Neutron diffraction is being used to study these supramolecular structures. Other examples of neutron physics include neutron spectrometry, neutron scattering, and neutron tomography. | |
